What is Global Entry?

It is a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) program that allows expedited clearance for pre-approved, "low-risk travelers" upon arrival in the United States. Approved members can seamlessly enter back into the country through customs as a "Head-of-the-line" member.

Think of it in the same equivalent as the "fast pass" at Six Flags! It allows you to be able to process through US customs much quicker by skipping the excessively long lines.

Is Global Entry worth it?

For those who travel internationally often, it's safe to say that the $100 investment is surely worth it! Once approved, the membership lasts for 5 years, before needing to renew your membership. Another amazing perk that comes along with Global Entry is the automatic enrollment and approval of TSA Precheck!

TSA Precheck Benefits:

If you're not familiar with #TSAPrecheck, let me put you on! Each time that you travel, domestically or internationally, you will be approved to enter into the TSA precheck line, which will also allow you to skip the line of General Boarding.

Let this be music to your ears because as an avid traveler, there's nothing worse than standing in long lines AND missing your flight because of that.

With this benefit, you could arrive at the airport at the latest one hour before your boarding time to ensure that your checked bag is safely boarding underneath the plane before take off.

For those who are carry-on-only travelers, it gets even better!!!

With these "express lanes" you no longer have to take off your shoes, remove your laptops, and excess clothing which tends to hold up the general boarding line.

How to Apply:

Visit this link to check your eligibility, as well as, how to apply for the application. Again, there is a non-refundable $100 fee to apply for this program. After you fill out the entire application, it could take up to 72 hours before being "conditionally approved", (if not longer). For myself and my family members, we were all conditionally approved within 24 hours of filing.

This timeframe could vary depending on your background.

Once you receive this initial status, immediately search for your nearest Enrollment Center/Airport to see the available appointments. This is where things can get tricky.

Tip: it's best to book something as opposed to nothing!

Appointment Hacks:

Dallas, Fort Worth International Airport was booked for an entire year while other airports had availability the next day.

You could fly to another location solely for your appointment or snag the earliest appointment near you. People tend to change their appointments daily allowing closer dates to open up.

I highly recommend checking out a few of the Global Entry appointment alert systems. During the time that I applied, some platforms hosted this feature for FREE. Unfortunately, they have changed their platform to charge for the service.

Which I understand!

Here are a few that you could check out:

There are a handful of Twitter Global Entry pages that post notifications all day every day. If you utilize this, make sure to have your Twitter notifications ON to ensure that you don't miss an alert for a new appointment at your chosen airport.

Once you receive a notification from any of these platforms, immediately log into the Global Entry platform to change your appointment to the time/day that you came across.

They can go as quickly as they came so don't waste ANY time.

With this hack, I was able to get an appointment in under 1 week!

Interview Process:

The interview process varies from person to person so please be aware of that! For my sister and I, we simply walked in and were asked 2 questions (if that).. one being about the weather, and were instantly approved.

I have heard stories of government officials asking more tedious questions and hounding people to see if they "slip up" and were denied afterward.

Keep your cool. Only answer what is asked. Do your research by going on Reddit to read about other people's experiences to better prepare yourself if you have some history on your record.

I hope this helps you on your journey to flying with EASE and less stress! All in all, this program has saved me so much time, and I have been able to walk right through the BUSIEST airports in America.
